Little G's thoughts on God

Yesterday on the way to church Little G and I listened to what he calls, "God Music".  Basically, I have never been able to turn off pop music in the car, even with the kids in there, so on Sundays, to keep Little G from breaking out into Ke$ha in Sunday School, I play the one and only children's Christian music album I have.  It actually isn't as awful as it could be...it is literally verses set to music, so if nothing else, maybe someday when he has to memorize ten bible verses for Christian Athletic Camp, he'll be that much further ahead.

Anyway, as we were getting out of the car at church, Little G turned to me thoughtfully and asked, "will God be at church?"

I said, "Yes, He'll be inside.  He's also with us all the time in our hearts."

That seemed to satisfy him so we headed inside.

After church, we stopped at the playground next door and there were big piles of leaves left over from the storm.  Little G ran through a pile and exclaimed, "Oh my GOD, look at all'o these leaves!"

I've been trying to encourage him to not say the Lord's name in vain and have told him that we only say 'Oh my God' if we are praying or talking directly TO God.  So I looked at him and said, "How about 'Oh my Goodness'".

To which he looked at me and said, "No mommy, God is HERE, so I can say 'Oh my God'!"

Why yes He is here, Little G.  I stand corrected.

  4. I am still a little uncomfortable passing religion to our daughter. It's such a personal thing for me, and I love to talk religion but am not good at relaying concepts at a 3-year-old level. So most of the religious education comes from my mother.

Anyway, yesterday Nana was helping her put on her dress after bath. Her arm got stuck, and she cried "Oh God, help me!" Then her other arm got stuck, and she said "God again -- the last time!" Nana explained that she would probably call out to God many more times in her life. And she said, "Well, it's the last time for this dress."
